You Got More Questions, We Got More Answers!

+ How is your clear aligner treatment designed?

We're all about the science and technology. We start by capturing the details of your teeth with the most accurate digital scanner. This scan along with your X-rays and photographs allows us to create a 3D model of your smile.

We then utilize SureSmile, a genius tooth-straightening software to create the ideal sequence of movements that are built into your clear alinger treatment.

+ Are clear aligners really invisible?

They are not invisible, but they're pretty hard to spot. Clear aligners are made of a see-through plastic material. From some angles, they may make your teeth appear extra shiny. Also, any attachments temporarily placed on your teeth may appear slightly raised.

Some patients can develop a small lisp when first wearing clear alingers because they aren't use to them. This typically improves after one to two weeks of use.

+ How many hours per day are clear aligners worn?

This one is important - they're worn a lot! They are designed to move your teeth quickly, and in order to reach your treatment goal the aligners must be one your teeth for 22 hours per day. Aligners are removed only when you eat, drink, brush and floss.

+ What is InterProximal Reduction (IPR)?

This is just a fancy way of saying adjusting tooth width. IPR is performed by the dentist using a polishing instrument. It removes a very small portion of the outer tooth surface, called enamel where the tooth comes in contact with neighboring teeth. It is intended to properly shape the teeth, acrquire more space for alignment and help the teeth fit together better.

IPR does not make teeth weaker or more susceptible to cavities. Nor does it cause gum disease.

+ Is there any discomfort from wearing clear alingers?

A little discomfort can be expected, but why? Well, in order to move the teeth into their ideal positions the aligners apply pressure to the teeth. This is especially noticeable when wearing a brand new aligner or switching out between aligners. You may experience soreness and achiness. This is temporary and does not harm the teeth or gums.

Any discomfort can be controlled with over the counter medication such as Ibuprofen, Tylenol or Aspirin.

+ How often do I change out clear aligners?

Change out for a new clear aligner every two weeks. Be sure to place the old aligner back into it's clear pouch for safe keeping (just in case you need to go back a step).

+ How often do I need to see the dentist once I begin treatment?

A typical treatment requires check-up visits every 8 weeks. These visits are typically quick but very important to ensure that treatment is staying on track.

+ What to do if you lose your clear aligner?

If you lose your aligner don't panic! The first thing you should do is start wearing your previous week's aligner - this is also the important reason why you should keep all your previous aligners in their pouches after using them.

Give the office a call and we will order a replacement aligner for you. The fee is $150.

+ How to care for your clear aligners?

Always be sure to put your aligners in their protective case when eating. Be very careful not to wrap them in a napkin and accidentally toss them away.

Prior to putting the aligner back in your mouth, simply rinse it with water or brush it with your toothbrush (no toothpaste).

We will also provide Suresmile cleaning crystals - mix the crystals with water, drop the alinger and let them sit for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and place them back in your mouth.

Avoid using boiling water, bleach or toothpaste on your aligners.

+ What are Chewies and how to use them?

Chewies will be given to you at the start of treatment and they are very important! They should be used at least twice a day. When putting your aligners back in your mouth after eating the chewie should be used to bite the aligner firmly into position.

Place the chewie between your teeth and bite down from back to front. Biting on chewies eliminates any air gaps and ensures that your aligners are fully seated and properly moving your teeth.

+ Will I need dental work before starting clear alingers?

The short answer is Yes! You should have a check-up and cleaning prior to treatment. Your teeth should be free from cavities, fractures or failing old fillings and crowns.
